A dog attack in Houston has prompted more whispers of BSL. Houston has an extensive history of “pit bull” (actually irresponsible dog owner) problems, the news media in Houston is notoriously anti-pit bull, and a Houston state representative introduces BSL every legislative session.
The bulk of the relevant article revolves around a dog attack and is emotionally charged–site policy prohibits giving credence to such media coverage, but the important piece of the article is reprinted here.

The family has started a letter writing campaign to get pit bulls banned in Texas. State law prohibits breed specific legislation, but some cities have been successful with getting ordinances passed.
I highly recommend that pit bull advocacy groups, rescue groups, and other anti-BSL groups in and around Houston get active about this issue.

Hi, saw your Twitter about this story. That’s me with my rescued pit bull Inky, CGC, TD, in the brief sound bite. I would like to thank FOX26 for at least giving opposing views during the segment. So few people understand dog behavior, so it’s a given that they want to blame the breed instead of looking at the events leading up to the awful and preventable attack.
Once this slippery slope picks up steam, where does it stop?
the state of texas is again banning any interested foster or adoptive parent from owning “aggressive breed dogs”. It’s not just cutting down the number of potential foster and adoptive homes that are desperately needed in the state of Texas, but the mere legality of it is questionable.
Texas cannot banned Pit Bulls! the OWNER is RESPONSIBLE for their dog (pit bull or whatever breed) first, dobermans, then, rotwailers, later the German shepherd and now Pit bulls! Come on! Blame the owner NOT the BREED!
I live in Texas. The easiest way to fight BSL here is to push the fact that next could be any kind of hound/retriever/mastiff/ridgeback/HUNTING DOG/etc, or the fact that the Texas state government is trying to tell Texans what breed they can/cannot own. The rednecks in this state will flip out. keep that in mind
