Elgin, IL: Elgin softens stance on pit bulls (final vote on March 10)

It’s still BSL and it still carries all the flaws and perils of any legislation based on subjective assessment of a dog’s body shape.

Word from a resident at the last city council meeting is that Councilman Prigge is already encouraging residents to “turn in” their neighbors’ dogs. A rally organized by opponents of the pit bull rules is set for 9 a.m. Saturday outside city hall.

The council meeting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, in the Heritage Ballroom at The Centre, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin.

  1. This is gettin out of hand .. we are now gonna take all the pit “looking ” dogs so if I have a boxer / lab YOUR gonna take my dog .. or a dogo / bulldog ? gonna take that too.. so we are letting folks just pick hit and miss who s dogs get confiscated
un real.. people you have lost your minds in an attempt to rid the fear of killer dogs that a few losers have exploited . We now are moving to let folks take and euthanize dogs based on a “look” or “type of look ” that scares folks Lawyers get on the band wagon to start flooding the states with paper work to save some dogs.. I see money money money

  2. We are hearing about this “continuing ” stereotyping and discrimination way out west in Calif.
It just makes my stomach turn to know such idiotic individuals are voted into an office to make idotic choices for the people.
Makes one wonder who is doing the voting for these people…. and what THEIR agenda is.

VIVA Bullies and the responsible owners who love and care for them.

We are wondering how the law will determine the breed where mixed breeds exist? Will there be a DNA testing on dogs to determine the ratio? If I understand dogs, there are even several breeds within a dog, and what ratio of pit specific breeding will be enough to determine it a pit?
What if a pit looking dog comes out 75% boxer, or doberman, then what?
Going a bit too far in my opinion.
Stop all this legislative distraction from the real issues in Elgin, such as overcrowding, gangs and what not. Animal cruelty is not the solution to Elgin’s problems.
