  1. I bet a year from now if you check the stats for Shadywide dog attacks the total number will drop. Would be interesting to find some stats on a city’s dog attacks that has done this ban awhile ago.

    • Welcome to the site, “Chubs.” I guess you didn’t bother to read any of the research or material here. The stats have been gathered, the studies have already been done.

Cities that ban “pit bulls” or other specific breeds do NOT experience fewer dog attacks or less severe dog attacks than other cities, all other things being equal. Effective dog bite reduction occurs when the public is educated and the laws are simple, enforceable and enforced, and equally applied to all dog owners regardless of breed.

  2. There are two problems with this. 1st of all, Shadyside police do not enforce anything, including ordinances. I had a vicious dog entrap me and my toddler in my house,it was a chow breed, growling and lunging at me when I was trying to leave the house. I was trapped in my own house. The police thought it was all fun and games, and told me I should have chased the dog back up the street. I later found out the people had to get rid of their chows for that exact reason, one had killed another neighbors dog. 2nd reason is that many people in small towns don’t think they need to have their dogs on a leash. No matter what breed is banned, bites arent going to be reduced until people start restraining their animals like they legally are supposed to, and with lack of enforcement, I dont see anything changing.
