Barstow may consider mandatory spay, neuter law

BARSTOW • A consultant working with Barstow to update its vicious-dog ordinance recommends that the city consider a mandatory spay-and-neuter law. But whether that law would require all dog owners to fix their animals or only to pit bull owners is up to city officials, he says.

LYNN – Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy will wait until after Sept. 7, when the City Council is slated to give a proposed pit bull ordinance a final review, to finish legal research into the proposal and decide if she will sign or veto it.

Colerain Twp. may impose restrictions on pit bulls

Colerain Township may begin talking about putting some teeth into a pit bull ordinance…. Deters said he knows the owners of the breed can be passionate, but the dogs can be dangerous. He said the township should investigate whether tighter regulations are required for the safety of residents. He said he’s asked Colerain Township Law Director James Reuter and Police Chief Dan Meloy to be ready to discuss the issue at the township’s first meeting in September.

LYNN – Before she signs a pit bull muzzle ordinance as soon as this Friday, Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy wants to know if the proposed law poses legal pitfalls by focusing on a specific dog breed.

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Council ultimately voted to defeat the ordinance to ban pit bull breeds, while also amending a proposal to grandfather in all existing pit bulls in town.

Point Pleasant, WV reminder: Breed ban being considered

The next Point Pleasant city council meeting takes place on August 16, 7:00 6:30 PM, at City Hall, 400 Viand Street. The breed ban IS on the agenda for FINAL vote. If approved, existing “pit bulls” will be allowed to remain in the city, but no new “pit bulls” will be permitted. (Thanks, Jo, for this information.)

It is not known at this time whether the proposed “pit bull” ban (no grandfather clause) is on the agenda for this meeting; however, this is an opportunity for locals to voice their opinions about the proposal.

Batesville, AR: Pit bull ban proposed

Edit 8/15: The proposal has been tabled for some changes. It is unknown at this time when the next reading will be. The next council meeting (Aug. 24) is an opportunity for locals to voice their opinions about the proposal.

This ordinance may be passed at the next council meeting, on August 24. There is no grandfather clause; “pit bull” owners must get rid of their dogs within 60 days of the ordinance’s passing.

Batesville City Council proposes pit bull ban

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – It’s been said “a dog’s bark is worse than its bite,” but that’s not the case when it comes to pit bulls. Now, one Region 8 town wants to ban the breed! … Krug says if the ordinance passes, it will go into effect within two weeks. If a pet owner is caught with a pit bull they will be fined and issued a citation.
