Brampton, Ontario, Canada: Two dogs on death row due to breed misidentification

Two dogs are in danger of being killed in Brampton because animal control officers have decided that the dogs look like “pit bulls” (banned in Ontario). Neither the dogs nor the owners have done anything wrong.

Rambo wasn’t hurting anyone.

No one had complained about the young dog, he hadn’t escaped 75-year-old Maria Gaspar’s Vodden Street yard, and he had never bitten anyone.

But Rambo and his sister, Brittany, are on death row at the City of Brampton’s Animal Shelter right now while their owners are embroiled in a battle to get their beloved pets back before they are euthanized. The deadline- Feb. 5.

Both dogs were seized from separate homes on Jan. 13 by city animal control officials who said they believed the dogs to be pitbulls.

Their owners say that’s not true, and both say they have proof from veterinarians tracing their backgrounds as boxers/American bulldogs.[…]

  1. There are FAR more OUT OF CONTROL animal control officers then out of control dogs in the city of Brampton!

This is EXACTLY why this darconian law must be brought down in this dog forsaken province.

SUPPORT Cheri Di Novo’s private members BILL 222. Call UP your MPP’s and tell them to END THE MADNESS of discrimination, profiling and labeling dogs. This BSL is a nightmare for responsible dog owners in Ontario. The Liberals have make 2nd class citizens of any medium sized, short haired dogs and THIS MUST STOP.

  2. Whats this world coming to??????? A loving pet, thats not agressive, never bitten, or caused a issue is seized, and now on death row………why???……..because they look like a pitbull!!!
This band against pitbulls is going way to far, he’s a dog in a loving home, a owner that looks after and responsible, it’s time all dog owner’s and even pet owner’s get together and really fight the goverment and city on this law, the more people that come together and raise this issue on this law, and support BILL 222……….We can change this!!!!!

  3. I am really taken back by this. I have 2 dogs that some may deem an “aggressive” breed (nothing could be further from the truth) and if someone came into my home or onto my property and told me they were taking my dogs, I would either be leaving in cuffs or in a bag. No one infringes on my God given right to have pets and no one tells me what breed of dogs I can have. Punish the DEED not the breed. If these dogs did nothing wrong then leave them alone. This whole bylaw or whatever it is called (legislation) is a complete joke.
Why stop here??? I some a kids in baggy pants rob and beat an old lady. New law!!! ALL kids wearing baggy pants are now deemed illegal, they will be taken from their parents arms and will be relocated or euthanized.

Come on people what have we come to as a society when this is even remotely acceptable?

  5. In all the confusion, where is the certtification of ability to positively identify, on sight, what breed any animal is…or…the recognised certification of training, that would be worth more than the opinion of a vet, as ability to identify any animal`s background, that is possessed by the animal control officers?

I mean, the AC staff member was believed to the point of police backing them up….maybe video surveillance should be mandatory on city vehicles so the rest of us can know what exactly happens……

Is the city really just backing up a staff member to cover up a gaff?
