Laurel, MS: BSL passes first reading (multiple breeds)

If the proposed ordinance passes a second reading, the following breeds will be automatically considered “vicious” dogs, subject to special restrictions, in the city of Laurel: “American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier [sic], American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler Breed Standard, Doberman Pinscher Breed Standard and Chow Chow Breed Standard.”

The ordinance has passed a first reading but must have a second reading before it can become law.

City officials move towards tougher dog ordinance

LAUREL — […] The Laurel City Council unanimously agreed to approve an order calling for tougher laws regarding animals in the City of Laurel.

[…] “No person shall keep, own, maintain, use or have in such person’s possession or n premises, within the city, any vicious animal, unless such animal is within a securely fenced area, secured building, or under immediate control of the owner,” the proposed ordinance states. “Specific breeds of dogs are hereby determined to be vicious animals … American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler Breed Standard, Doberman Pinscher Breed Standard and Chow Chow Breed Standard.”

  1. There are no bad breeds only bad owners . There is no reason to take such action against the breeds mentioned however certain people should be banned from owning any domestic animal .
