Laurel, MS reminder: City council may vote and pass BSL, May 4

The Laurel, Mississippi city council next meets on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 5:30. The proposed ordinance is scheduled for a second reading, and may pass.

If the proposed ordinance passes a second reading, the following breeds will be automatically considered “vicious” dogs, subject to special restrictions, in the city of Laurel: “American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier [sic], American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler Breed Standard, Doberman Pinscher Breed Standard and Chow Chow Breed Standard.” Latest news report indicates German Shepherds have been added to this list.

Council expected to discuss amended dog ordinance Tuesday

LAUREL —

“Specific breeds of dogs are hereby determined to be vicious animals … American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler Breed Standard, Doberman Pinscher Breed Standard and Chow Chow Breed Standard.”

During this week’s meeting, council members agreed to include German Shepherds in that list.[…]

This and other items will be discussed during the city council’s next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chambers at Laurel City Hall.
