Donnellson, IA: Council to consider breed ban

Donnellson city council is considering a ban on breeds considered “vicious.” I believe city ordinance currently labels “pit bulls” and Rottweilers to be “vicious” (and places special restrictions on ownership), so these would be the two breeds likely targeted by the proposed ban. (Yes, they already have BSL, and I guess it’s not working or not being enforced, because now they want to “step up” to a ban.) However, the text of the proposal is not yet ready, so I cannot confirm exactly what is being considered.

Next city council meeting, at which this proposal is likely to be discussed and voted on: December 5.

The ordinance would limit the type of dogs that could be kept within city limits, banning dogs of breeds deemed “vicious.” The ordinance was not completed in time for Monday’s meeting, and the council decided they will take another month to consider how they want the ordinance to read before voting on it at their next regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 5.
