Last night, the Tupelo, MS city council discussed amending its dangerous dog ordinance to add rottweilers and dobermans to the list of “dangerous dogs.” Because the issue was on the study agenda, no vote was taken. However, the city clerk has confirmed that the council did move the issue forward, and it will be placed on the action agenda for the May 1, 2012 city council meeting. Items on the action agenda are up for vote by the council.
The City of Tupelo already has regulations in place for “pit bulls” which include licensing, registering and securing permits. Owners of “pit bulls” must also post signage and meet confinement restrictions.
Please contact the Tupelo city officials with your polite, respectful and informative opposition to breed specific legislation. Its important to remember in all your interactions with any city official that you are representing responsible dog owners as a whole, and that negative communications can and will reflect very poorly on the very people you are trying to help.
