Residents have asked Kingsford city council to repeal their longstanding breed ban. One resident who attended the last meeting has advised us that the council is not really interested in repeal, and that the repeal proposal may ultimately be buried in committee unless more people show up at the council meetings to put pressure on the council.
The next council meeting is May 21 at 6:30 PM at City Hall. (See contact info below to reach city clerk for more information.) Residents and locals, please attend this meeting and show your support for the repeal of Kingsford’s breed ban.

Residents bark back against pit bull ban

I have 2 pit bulls and they are the best dogs i have ever owned. Are we back in the 1900’s where we dont even have the right to own the type of dog that we want? All you people that want this ban to stay in effect, let me ask are you prejudice? You must be because exploiting one breed out of many is just rediculous. I trust my pit bulls 100 percent with my children and any one else that comes into my home. They are very sweet and wouldnt hurt anyone unless you consider them licking you to death. Because that is about all they do. There is a leash law people. There is no reason any dog of any breed should just be roaming around. I understand that sometimes they get out. But not once have i not been right behind to get them. And i have a fenced in back yard so it doesnt happen often. So for everyone who wants to ban these dogs, I say well maybe i am prejudice to you and maybe you should be banned from the community because you are doing more harm to our City our County and our State, by taking away our rights to own the dog of our choice. There have been studies that show pit bulls are one of the least aggresive dogs. Its all the little ankle biters who bark constantly and nip and bite everyone. There is no such thing as a mean dog. Only irresponsible owners. And as for what happend with the girl off the bus. Again where the heck was this dogs owner? Obviously this dog was neglected and not cared for if the owner is know where to be found they obviously didnt care enough about the dog to care at all. I can tell you if you keep this ban in the city of Kingsford its going to end up in the whole county and i for one am not giving up my dogs for a few careless pet owners and people who are too simple minded to realize its the owner not the pet. I had a beagle that bit people are you gonna ban them from the city too? Probly not. Lets get real here people. These dogs are like my children and i will not let them go lightly.
