Gwinnett County, GA: BSL to be discussed, Oct 18

The Gwinnett County Animal Advisory committee will issue a recommendation on the county’s newly proposed BSL during their meeting on Oct. 18, 2010 at 7 PM at the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center, 884 Winder Highway, Lawrenceville.

The proposal requires that pit bull owners follow special containment, insurance, and registration restrictions.

Putnam County, WV: BSL opponents ask commissioners to remove breed-specific language

Following Commissioner Haynes’s advice, opponents of Putnam County’s BSL should continue to petition Commissioners Andes and Tillis to remove the breed-specific language.

Considering the other content in this news article, perhaps those commissioners would be more receptive to any suggestions that would help with their budget problems.

[…] Also Tuesday, opponents to the county vicious-dog ordinance asked commissioners to remove the breed specific language that names pit bulls and mixed-breed pit bulls among vicious dogs prohibited from running free in the county.

Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop intends to urge fellow commissioners today to dismiss Dog Warden Tom Skeldon or initiate a major reorganization at the county dog pound to demote the warden and relieve him of dog adoption responsibilities.

“If you’re killing innocent dogs, I think that inherently is cause for termination,” Mr. Konop said Monday.[…]

Broward Co., FL: Whispers of BSL

Florida State Law [emphasis mine]:

767.14  Additional local restrictions authorized.–Nothing in this act shall limit any local government from placing further restrictions or additional requirements on owners of dangerous dogs or developing procedures and criteria for the implementation of this act, provided that no such regulation is specific to breed and that the provisions of this act are not lessened by such additional regulations or requirements. This section shall not apply to any local ordinance adopted prior to October 1, 1990.
