Broward Co., FL: Whispers of BSL

Florida State Law [emphasis mine]:

767.14  Additional local restrictions authorized.–Nothing in this act shall limit any local government from placing further restrictions or additional requirements on owners of dangerous dogs or developing procedures and criteria for the implementation of this act, provided that no such regulation is specific to breed and that the provisions of this act are not lessened by such additional regulations or requirements. This section shall not apply to any local ordinance adopted prior to October 1, 1990.

The County Commission meets in formal session on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in Room 422 of the Broward County Governmental Center. Public Hearings begin at 2 p.m. as designated on the meeting schedule. The County Commission schedules workshops as needed on specific topics that require additional discussion. Individuals who wish to address the Commission at a Commission Meeting or Public Hearing may do so, subject to the rules and procedures established in the Broward County Administrative Code.

The entire town of Mashpee, MA will hold their fall Town Meeting on Monday, October 19. At that time, the voters will decide whether to pass a “pit bull” ordinance.

The Town Meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at Mashpee High School, 500 Old Barnstable Rd.

    Dog owners take bite out of Nackawic bylaw

    NACKAWIC – About 30 people turned out to a public meeting Tuesday night to debate a proposed new dog control bylaw.

    The new bylaw, which passed first and second reading two weeks ago, will eliminate references to pit bull terriers, Rottweilers and any dog with a mix of those breeds.

    Reminder: Moses Lake, WA: Second reading to pass BSL on Nov. 25

    Moses Lake, WA city council will read a proposed “hazardous dog” ordinance a second time on November 25, possibly passing it and allowing it to become law. The ordinance is breed specific.

    City council meetings begin at 7 PM in council chambers.
