Moses Lake, WA: Moses Lake declares hazardous dogs (BSL passed)

Emotion won over logic in a big way in Moses Lake this week.

Please write or call the city and thank councilmembers Brent Reese and Jon Lane for voting against BSL. The next chance to replace the other councilmembers will be at the end of 2009.

Allen Park, MI: Third and final reading of BSL, Nov. 25, 7:00 PM

Crossposted from BSL Updates

The proposed pit bull ordinance is on the Allen Park city council agenda for Tuesday, November 25, 2008.  This will be the third (and final) reading. The city councilman who proposed the ordinance tried to push it through at last nght’s council meeting, but because it was not on the agenda, he was unable to do so.  With this in mind, it is very important that as many people as possible attend the council meeting next week to speak in opposition of and to show a unified stand against the passing of any breed specific ordinance.  Council meetings begin at 7:00.

In addition, please try to get out another round of polte and respectful letters in opposition to breed specific legislation to the city officials listed below.

Thank you!

Moses Lake, WA: Misleading article title—BSL has NOT passed yet

The Columbia Basin Herald published an article on 11/13 with the following headline and subhead:

Moses Lake to regulate pit bulls

City declares animals hazardous

This gives the impression that Moses Lake has passed BSL. This is not true. The city council has not completed the legally required second reading for this bill. They will be having a public hearing and the second reading for this ordinance at the city council meeting on November 25th.

All residents are encouraged to show up and express your opinion about BSL and about the city council’s unwillingness to accept the recommendations of experts, including their very own committee formed to examine the issue, all of whom advised against BSL.

Although it’s very likely this BSL will pass, there is no reason why the public cannot have their final say. Please do not let this news article dissuade you from attending the public hearing.

Moses Lake, WA: BSL passed first reading; second reading Nov. 25

Crossposted from BSL Updates:

Last night, the Moses Lake city council passed the first reading of their proposed “hazardous dog” ordinance. The ordinance is breed specific. If passed, it would regulate the ownership of American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and any mixes thereof.

Second (and final) reading will be November 25, 2008.

The public is welcome to attend the city council meetings and address the council. You do not need to place your name on the agenda. Written materials for consideration must be received by the city clerk by November 20, 2008. The clerk will distribute the materials to the city officials.

I do not have e-mail contact information, so you will have to fax or snail mail your polite and respectful opposition and educational materials to the city clerk.
